Concrete and small structure demolition in Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland

Old concrete has to come out before new concrete goes in, and sometimes an old shed, carport or garage has to come down first. We break out slabs, take down small structures, haul the debris off and leave the ground ready for the new slab, all with the same crew that will pour it.

What demolition involves

For concrete, demolition means breaking the slab into pieces the loader can pick up, separating out any wire or rebar, loading it and hauling it away. A driveway, patio or sidewalk comes out this way, and so does a garage floor. Joe checks on the site walk what is under the slab, whether utilities run through the area, and how the loader gets to it without tearing up the yard.

Small structures such as sheds, detached garages and carports are taken down to the slab or footing, sorted, and hauled off. Where the old slab is being reused, the crew leaves it in place. Where it is going, the slab comes out and the ground is cut and compacted for the new pour. Utilities attached to a structure are disconnected before it comes down, and Joe goes over the disconnects and any permit with you when he scopes the job.

How Morgan's handles demolition

Our own W2 crew does the breaking, loading and hauling, and the supervisor on site is the person who bid the job. Demolition is where a careless crew does the most damage to the rest of a property, so we plan the equipment route, protect what stays, and clean the site before leaving.

Licensed and insured Tearing out an old slab is the first half of a replacement job, and the second half is our concrete crew. The base that was under the old slab is inspected and rebuilt where it failed, since a slab that cracked because the ground under it settled will crack again on the same ground. Josh signs off on the base before the new forms go in.

Questions homeowners ask

Where does the old concrete go?

Broken concrete is hauled off the property. Haul-off is part of the demolition estimate.

Can you take down a shed or old garage?

Yes. Small residential structures are taken down, sorted and hauled off, and the slab underneath is either kept for reuse or broken out and replaced. Structures with power or water attached need the utilities disconnected first.

Will demolition damage my yard or driveway?

Equipment has to reach the slab, and Joe plans the route on the site walk to keep it off anything that matters. Some rutting on the path is common in soft ground, and the crew regrades it before leaving.

Why does the old concrete have to come out?

Pouring over a cracked or heaving slab carries its problems into the new concrete. Removing it lets us see and fix the ground that caused the failure, and gives the new slab full thickness on a compacted base.
